Global Tasks
What are Global Tasks?
Global tasks are pre-built, standardized tasks that are shared across your organization. These tasks are designed by your research administration team and made available to all Vandalizer users, ensuring consistency and efficiency across departments. Rather than each user creating their own tasks, everyone can access and use these vetted, production-ready tasks for common research administration workflows.
Available Global Tasks
Example: NIH Awards Task
The NIH Awards task is an example of a global task—a pre-configured extraction task designed to automatically extract key information from NIH award documents. Like all tasks, this extraction task pulls specific information directly from documents using exact, consistent terms.
To access this global task:
- Open Vandalizer and navigate to the Chat tab in the toolbox window
 - Click the TASKS button
 - Select the NIH Awards task from the list of available global tasks
 - Upload your NIH award documents
 - The task will automatically extract key fields from each document

Task Details: - Type: Extraction task - Purpose: Extract key information from NIH award documents - Status: Ready to use (6 example documents available)
How to Use a Global Task
- Access the Task: Find the global task in your Vandalizer workspace
 - Review Configuration: The task is already configured with all necessary settings and parameters. If needed, you can edit and customize the task configuration to better fit your specific use case before running it.
 - Upload Documents: Add your documents that match the task’s intended input (e.g., NIH award documents for the NIH Awards task)
 - Run the Task: Execute the task on your documents
 - Extract Results: Review and download the extracted data

Global tasks are designed to be both flexible and standardized—while they provide a proven baseline configuration, you can modify them as needed for your unique requirements.
Benefits of Global Tasks
- Consistency: All users follow the same data extraction and processing logic
 - Efficiency: No need to recreate tasks—use proven, tested versions
 - Standardization: Ensures uniform handling of documents across your research administration office
 - Training: New team members can quickly adopt established extraction tasks
 - Documentation: Tasks serve as executable documentation of your extraction workflows
